This photo was shot by award-winning
photographer Suzanne Williams inside
a concrete bunker at Fort Stevens, Oregon, the only
place in the contiguous 48 states fired upon during
World War II. We stayed too long the day this photo
was shot and got locked in the military park. The
German camp host gave us a stern warning about exceeding
